Meet the Heartfelt Home-Grown Team
Meet Mary Leeds, BSW, the driving force
behind Senior Care Advocate LLC. A Virginia Wesleyan College graduate,
Mary holds an abundant amount of expertise. With a quarter-century in the
field, she served as Director of the Geriatric Institute at Bon Secours DePaul Hospital, acted as a Medical Social Worker/Geriatric Case Manager at
Sentara Health Systems/Optima, and contributed to her skills as a
Geriatric Case Manager at SeniorCorp.
Dr. Keith Berger serves Senior Care Advocate in a consulting capacity. He is an internist and gastroenterologist who has been in medical practice in Virginia Beach since 1981. Dr. Berger formed the current Center for Health and Cancer Prevention in 2001. He is a product of Norfolk public schools (Granby). Dr. Berger earned his bachelor's degree in Biology with honors from Harvard University and his M.D. from Duke University where he completed his residency in Internal Medicine. His final two years of specialized gastroenterology training were at Yale University.
Dr. Susan Mullen Kaplan PhD, RN, CCRP has worked in the healthcare field for over four decades. She has provided direct clinical care to patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings, nursing education and staff development, clinical research and patient education. Currently she is a nurse specialist coordinating nursing research for Sentara Healthcare. Dr. Kaplan earned her undergraduate degree in Nursing from Simmons College in Boston, MA, her master’s degree in Maternal Child-Health from Texas Woman’s University in Dallas, TX, and her doctorate from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA.
Daphne Amara is our Elite Caregiving and Companionship Service Director. She has more than 16 years of experience working in the medical field as a CNA. She works under the direct supervision of Mary Leeds, the founder of Senior Care Advocate, to schedule and manage the caregivers, companions as well as assist clients with the registration process. Daphne also manages client accounts, making sure that clients are getting the best care from our caregivers.
Mary Kell Mooney, MS is our Head of Marketing. She is very knowledgeable about
the senior living industry with over 10 years of experience in assisted living,
memory care, and long-term care. She has worked in for-profit and non-profit
senior living communities as both a frontline worker and manager. Mary Kell earned
her Master’s in Health Sciences with a focus in Gerontology at George Mason University. Her passion for helping seniors developed by helping her father and caring for her stepmother who had Alzheimer’s disease. Mary Kell knows both personally and professionally the overwhelming need for patient advocacy,
resources, and support for seniors and their families.
